Overview

Discover the idyllic island of Porto Santo on our Madeira Beach Holiday.

Whilst the main island of Madeira has been a popular holiday destination for many years, it’s neighbour, the peaceful beach island of Porto Santo, is relatively unknown outside of Portugal. It’s one of the country’s best kept secrets: a tranquil, sparsely populated island with a pristine 9km beach, warm seas and radiant sunsets.

On land, you’ll explore the island’s long history by jeep and on foot with our resident guide. You’ll also have time on the water, kayaking and snorkelling – the calm seas off Porto Santo’s south coast are ideal for beginners and families.

So, if you’re looking for a beach holiday to Madeira, a Porto Santo Beach Holiday is our recommendation – and if you’d like to extend your stay to two weeks, this holiday combines perfectly with our Madeira Family Activity Holiday or a seven night stay in Funchal.

Itinerary

You’ll begin your holiday by flying from the UK to Porto Santo, via Lisbon. Our driver will collect you on arrival for the short, five-minute transfer to the Torre Praia Hotel on Praia Cabeco beach.
Your first day is free, so you can relax – your hotel’s pool and terrace lead you directly onto the sand, and you can spend the day swimming and soaking up some rays. It’s a short walk into the island capital Vila Baleira – with a population of just 5000, it’s a friendly, welcoming small town with a laid-back atmosphere and a nice selection of restaurants and café bars.
You’ll take a half-day jeep tour of Porto Santo, with visits to the viewpoint at Miradouro das Flores, the pointy peak of Pico Ana Ferreira, and the preserved Casa da Serra where you can sample islands’ traditional cakes and sweet liquors.
You’ll head down to the southern tip of the island for a snorkelling session. Porto Santo’s marina reserve is one of the island’s most-popular snorkelling spots – for both beginners and experienced snorkellers.
You’ll walk the Terra Cha trail with our resident guide, which take you by Pico Branco and the Furna dos Homiziados caves.
You’ll return to sea for a kayaking session from Ponta da Calheta to the secluded beach at Zimbralinho (and back again). The calm waters are great for beginners and families, and experienced kayakers can enjoy a privileged view of the island’s impressive basaltic sea cliffs.
You’ll walk the Vereda do Pico do Facho trail to the highest point on Santa Maria – its name, Facho, refers to the bonfires which were once lit on the summit to warn the populations of both Porto Santo and Madeira of attacks by pirates in the 16th Century.
Your final day is free so you can relax on the beach.
You’ll be transferred to the airport for your flights home, via Lisbon.
