Spend a relaxing week in Camara de Lobos at the boutique Pestana Churchill Bay. 

If you’re looking to escape the bustle of the capital Funchal but you’d still like to have a great selection of local café bars and restaurants on your doorstep, the historic harbour town of Camara de Lobos is the ideal location.

It’s the up-and-coming place to live for Funchal’s commuter-set, thanks to its south-coast location, its sunny micro-climate and its proximity to the capital. For visitors to Madeira, it’s a great location from which to explore the whole island – the green valleys of the east, the peaceful fishing villages of the west, and magnificent sea cliffs of the north are all within easy driving distance.

You’ll be staying at the Pestana Churchill Bay, overlooking the brightly painted boats which populate Camara’s naturally sheltered bay. Flexibility is always the key with our holidays – we can include a hire car and you can spend a week touring the island at your leisure. If you’d prefer not to drive, you can explore Madeira’s unique island culture with our resident guides.

Itinerary

Day 1

You’ll begin your holiday with a direct flight to Madeira. Our driver will collect you on arrival for your transfer to the Pestana Churchill Bay in Camara de Lobos.

Day 2

We'll leave your first morning free so you can relax and explore Camara de Lobos on foot. We'll deliver a hire car at lunchtime - you could take a drive to Cabo Girao: the famous glass skywalk which extends out over the 580m high Cabo Girao seacliff.

Day 3

It's a short drive from Camara de Lobos to another famous viewpoint - the Eira do Serrado which overlooks Curral das Freiras: the secluded Nuns Valley.

Day 4

You'll head into the capital Funchal to visit the historic Se Catedral, Blandy’s wine lodge and the Monte Palace Gardens.

Day 5

You could take drive over the island’s central mountains to the north coast town of Porto Moniz: one of the best swimming spots on the island.

Day 6

You'll explore the west of the island, with visits to the Cascata da Garganta Funda waterfall, the fishing village of Paul do Mar and the rum distillery in Calheta.

Day 7

For your final full day, you might like to explore the river valleys and coastal towns of eastern Madeira.

Day 8

You'll return your hire car to the airport before flying home.
