Garajau’s excellent selection of local restaurants, cafebars and shops are all within easy walking distance. It’s also a short walk to the seacliffs at Ponta do Garajau – home to the island’s famous statue of Cristo Rei. The nearby cable car traverses the cliffs, down to Praia do Garajau where you can enjoy Madeira’s magnificent sunsets from the terrace of the Restaurante o Mero. Luz do Sol is also in the ideal location for exploring eastern Madeira by car –  Ponta de Sao Lourenco and the historic town of Machico are a short drive along the coast; heading inland, the beautiful Parque Natural do Ribeiro Frio and the charming east-coast town of Santana are a thirty-minute drive away.
